Newborn Twin Photography London – 7 Helpful Things to Know

Newborn Twin Photography London – When Is the Best Time for a Session?

Newborn twin photography London sessions are a beautiful way to capture the unique connection between your babies during their first weeks together. Photographing twins requires a slightly different approach to photographing one newborn, particularly when it comes to timing, posing and allowing both babies to settle comfortably.

Booking a newborn twin photography London session can feel a little different from planning a photoshoot for one baby. With two newborns, there are two little personalities, two feeding patterns and often a slightly different journey following birth.

Over the years, I have photographed newborn babies of many different birth weights and at different stages after delivery. With twins especially, I don’t believe there should be one strict rule about exactly how many days old the babies need to be.

Every twin session in my Enfield studio is planned individually, taking into account the babies’ birth weight and development, how mum is recovering and, quite simply, when the family feels ready to leave home and attend a photography session with two newborns.

When is the best time for newborn twin photography?

For a typical newborn session with one baby, the first few weeks after birth are often an ideal time for photography. With twins, however, we sometimes need to approach timing differently.

Twins are more likely to arrive earlier and may need some additional time after birth to gain weight and strength before their photoshoot.

I will never recommend rushing to the studio simply because the babies have reached a particular number of days old.

As a general guide, I often prefer to wait until each baby is around 3 kg, particularly when they were born small. This isn’t a strict requirement or a guarantee that this will be the right point for every baby. It is simply one of several factors I consider when discussing the session with parents.

Every twin newborn photoshoot is planned individually

There isn’t one perfect formula for deciding when twins should come to the studio.

Before arranging the final date, we can consider:

  • the babies’ birth weights and progress,
  • whether they were born prematurely,
  • feeding and general wellbeing,
  • how mum is feeling after delivery,
  • and how manageable it feels for the family to travel to the studio with two little babies.

Sometimes waiting a little longer makes the whole experience easier for everyone.

My experience photographing low-birth-weight and premature babies is particularly valuable here. The session is adapted to the babies in front of me rather than expecting the babies to adapt to a predetermined photography schedule.

ccidents are completely normal during newborn sessions, so don’t worry about them.

Do twins only have photographs together?

No. One of the things I consider particularly important during newborn twin photography is creating a complete gallery for both children.

Your babies are twins, but they are also two individuals.

During the session I therefore photograph them together and separately.

The photographs of them cuddled close together are incredibly special, but individual portraits are equally important. Each baby deserves photographs capturing their own little face, features and expressions.

This also gives parents a much more varied final gallery rather than every photograph showing exactly the same arrangement.

During my newborn twin photography London sessions, I photograph the babies both together and individually. This gives parents a varied gallery while preserving the special connection between their twins.

Family photographs are included too

A twin newborn photoshoot London experience isn’t only about photographs of the babies.

Family photographs form part of the session as well. Parents can be photographed with both babies, and where there are older brothers or sisters, we can include sibling photographs too.

These don’t have to feel formal or heavily posed. Some of the most meaningful photographs can be very simple — parents holding their babies, tiny bodies against mum or dad, or little hands resting safely together.

I want the gallery to tell the story of the family at this particular moment, rather than simply provide a collection of posed newborn photographs.

Family photographs are also an important part of my newborn twin photography London sessions, so parents and siblings can be included alongside the babies.

Does a twin newborn session cost more?

No.

I wouldn’t introduce a twin surcharge.

The price of my newborn photography packages does not change simply because you have twins.

The same newborn collections are available, and your chosen number of professionally edited photographs can include portraits of the babies together, their individual portraits and family photographs.

I think this is actually worth making very clear in the article because it can become one of your competitive advantages:

Two babies don’t mean double the session price.

What if one baby sleeps and the other doesn't?

This is completely normal.

Two babies won’t necessarily feed, settle or sleep at exactly the same time — and I don’t expect them to.

My sessions are baby-led, so we can work around both babies rather than trying to force them into the same rhythm for the sake of a photograph.

If one twin is settled while the other needs feeding or comforting, that can be an ideal opportunity to create individual portraits. Once both babies are comfortable, we can move on to photographs of them together.

There is plenty of flexibility within the session.

Safety comes before the photograph

When photographing two newborns together, careful positioning and observation are particularly important.

I never prioritise achieving a particular pose over the comfort or safety of either baby. If a setup isn’t appropriate for one of the twins, we simply adapt it.

My approach combines more than a decade of newborn photography experience with my previous nursing background, and every session is approached calmly and patiently.

A newborn twin photography session designed around your babies

Every set of twins arrives with a different story.

Some babies may be ready for their photographs relatively soon after birth. Others benefit from a little more time to grow stronger and gain weight. Mum’s recovery and how comfortable the family feels travelling with two newborns matter just as much.

That’s why I don’t set one rigid age limit for newborn twin photography in London.

We can stay in touch following the birth and decide together when the time feels right.

My Enfield photography studio welcomes families from North London and surrounding areas, and the session can include photographs of each twin individually, both babies together and beautiful family portraits.

If you’re expecting twins, you are very welcome to get in touch during pregnancy. We can reserve your newborn session and finalise the exact date once your babies arrive.

If you are expecting twins and considering newborn twin photography London, you are welcome to contact me before the babies arrive. We can make an initial plan and then adjust the session date once we know how mum and both babies are doing.

Twins often arrive earlier

According to the NHS, twins are more likely to be born earlier than babies from a single pregnancy, with around 6 in 10 twins being born before 37 weeks. This is one of the reasons I take a more flexible approach when arranging a newborn photography session for twins.

Rather than focusing only on how many days have passed since birth, I consider each family’s individual circumstances. The babies may simply need a little more time to grow and settle after an earlier arrival, while mum may also need longer to recover before travelling to the studio.

There is never any pressure to attend the session within a particular number of days. We can stay in touch after your babies arrive and choose a date that feels comfortable for your family.
