Meet Your Newborn Photographer in Enfield – 13 Things About Me

Choosing a newborn photographer in Enfield is about more than beautiful images. You are trusting someone with your new baby, so experience, patience and a calm approach really matter.

I’m Sylvia Dobek, a newborn, maternity and family photographer based in Enfield, North London. Before photography became my profession, I completed a Master’s degree in Nursing and worked as a theatre nurse. I have lived in London since 2013 and have now been photographing babies and families for over 13 years.

From Nursing to Newborn Photography

One of the things that often surprises my clients is that photography was not my first profession. I completed six years of study at the Medical University of Warsaw and graduated with a Master’s degree in Nursing.

The longest part of my nursing career was spent working in an operating theatre as a theatre nurse. That experience taught me to stay calm, pay attention to detail and work carefully in situations that require patience and concentration.

Those skills have stayed with me throughout my photography career. Newborn photography is a very different environment, but working safely, observing a baby carefully and never rushing a session are principles I take very seriously.

My newborn sessions are always baby-led. Some babies sleep deeply from the beginning, while others need more time to feed, settle or simply be held.

Why I Love Working With Newborn Babies

Out of all the photography sessions I offer, newborn photography has always felt especially natural to me. I love the calm pace of these sessions and the fact that every baby is completely different.

Over the years, I have photographed hundreds of babies, from tiny newborns in their first weeks to older babies who are much more alert and curious about the world around them.

Although the first few weeks are often ideal for certain sleepy newborn poses, I also regularly photograph older newborns. Every session is adjusted to the baby in front of me rather than following a rigid posing checklist.

13 Things You May Not Know About Your Enfield Newborn Photographer

1. I am a qualified nurse

Before becoming a professional photographer, I completed a Master’s degree in Nursing after six years of study at the Medical University of Warsaw.

2. I worked in an operating theatre

The longest part of my nursing career was spent working in an operating department as a theatre nurse. It was a role that required precision, organisation and a calm approach.

3. London has been my home since 2013

I moved to London in 2013 and today my photography studio is based in Enfield, North London.

4. I am definitely a night owl

I often find myself most productive late in the evening. I can happily work until late at night — especially when I am editing — although I appreciate a slower morning afterwards.

5. Newborn sessions feel the most natural to me

Many people assume photographing newborns must be the most difficult part of my work. For me, it is often the opposite. I enjoy the slower rhythm, patience and attention to detail that newborn photography requires.

6. I love travelling

Travelling is one of the things that makes me happiest. I love seeing new places, experiencing different cultures and spending time somewhere completely different from everyday life.

7. I love observing wild turtles

Something that may surprise you — I love observing wild turtles as they come out of the sea to bury their eggs in the sand.

It is something that should only ever be watched quietly, from a safe distance and without disturbing them, because frightening a turtle can interrupt the entire nesting process.

There is something incredibly moving about their determination and the effort they make to protect the next generation. In a way, it reminds me of people too — we do so much for our children.

8. I’m not afraid of spiders

I love animals, but one thing that often surprises people is that I’m not afraid of spiders either. I never kill them — if one is somewhere it shouldn’t be, I carefully move it to a safe place, and if it isn’t bothering anyone, I’m happy to let it stay where it is.

9. I love exotic fruit

Give me a plate of unusual tropical fruit and I will be very happy.

10. I genuinely enjoy driving

I am one of those people who actually enjoys getting into the car and driving, especially when there is a good destination at the end of the journey.

11. I try to put my phone away during family time

Running a photography business makes it very easy to stay connected all the time, so when I spend proper time with my family, I try to put my phone down and be present.

12. I love milk chocolate in every form

Milk chocolate is definitely one of my weaknesses. Chocolate bars, desserts, ice cream or anything covered in chocolate — I will probably love it.

13. I love technology and technical innovations

I have always been interested in technical innovations — whether they relate to photography, websites, cameras or simply finding a smarter way to do something.

What Matters Most to Me During a Newborn Session

Beautiful photographs matter, of course, but they are not the only thing that matters during a newborn session.

I want parents to feel comfortable leaving the studio knowing their baby was handled patiently and respectfully throughout the experience.

There is no pressure for your baby to sleep immediately, no expectation that every pose must happen and no need to worry if your newborn needs feeding or cuddles. Sessions are designed around the baby rather than the other way around.

My studio provides wraps, props and newborn outfits, and I will guide you through the process before and during your session.

As a newborn photographer Enfield families return to over the years, I have had the privilege of watching many of their children grow.

A Newborn Photographer in Enfield for Your Growing Family

Many of the families I photograph return to the studio as their children grow.

I may first meet them during a maternity session, then photograph their newborn, and later see them again for family photographs, milestone sessions or a first birthday cake smash.

That continuity is one of my favourite parts of this job. Photographs that begin with a pregnancy or newborn session gradually become part of a much bigger family story.

Being a newborn photographer Enfield parents can feel comfortable with means creating a calm experience as well as beautiful photographs.
